Sweet surprise
A friend is expecting the first grandchild in August!
It’s a fantastic moment in life, and I share the joy to its full. And of-course I want to knit up a gift; maybe a home-coming present. After some thinking I came up with a tiny dress with a matching blanket.
Materials
Yarn: I used the fingering weight yarn, “Catona” from Scheepjes to work the set.
Needles: 3.5mm/US4.
The blanket
The blanket is worked side-to-side, with edges in garter/stockinette and the centre using the dandelion stitch.
The pattern gives instructions for 3 sizes:
The smallest size would cover the duvet of a stroller, but is not big enough to wrap around the baby.
The medium size could be plied double over the duvet of the stroller, and is big enough to wrap the baby. The large size could be used as a large wrap or as a bedspread of a cot.
Measurements:
Width: 57/74/90 cm = 22.5/29/35”
Length: 68/80/102 cm = 26.75/31.5/40”
Yardage: approximately 700/1000/1550 m = 765/1090/1690 yards of Catona.
The dress
The dress is worked bottom-up and seamlessly.
Sizes: newborn/3 months/9 months.
Finished chest measurements: 37.5/42/50cm = 14.75/16.5/19.5.
Sample is worked in size newborn.
Yardage: approximately 220/320/420m = 240/350/460 yards of Catona.
The pattern
All measurements are in cm’s as well as in inches.
The stitch-pattern is written out row-by-row/round-by-round.
All necessary stitch-counts are given.
There is a schematic.
Skill level: intermediate.
Techniques involved: cast-on, backwards cast-on.
Length: 68/80/102 cm = 26.75/31.5/40”
