My favorite thing about sweets is how pretty they look – especially in the store window of a patisserie. I remember a shop in London that had the most decadent petit fours, cookies and cakes in the window – and it left me thinking about what it might be like to translate those delicate details into fiber. The result? The Sweetcake Shawl.

Knit from the top center of the crescent with increases at the edges on both the right and wrong side rows, this long, thin shawl grows side to side with a rounded crescent-shaped middle. Sweetcake features feather and fan lace with garter stitch and rows of slipped stitch “dots” (like little silver dragées) to keep you entertained all the way through. Blocking is key – be sure to draw the top edge completely straight across on your mat and pin the shawl down and out from there to ensure a flat top edge.
