The basic Sweetheart Rose has five petals, each with a little dip in it. The center of the flower is fairly large and flat, so you can easily add craft stamens or buttons or other embellishment.

Options include adding another round of larger petals, or crocheting picots around the center of the flower.

In the project pictured here, I crocheted the Sweetheart Rose (two rounds of petals and a round of picots) with a cashmere/merino blend from Jojoland. I added Small One-Row Leaves (also in Crochet Bouquet). Fresh-water pearls add another touch of elegance to these yummy slippers.
