Swim, bike, run…that’s what triathletes do and what the kokopelli figures on this hat depict. Instructions are for one size (approx.. 23” circumference), but can be adjusted by altering your gauge. The pattern includes detailed written instructions with a chart to follow for the kokopelli figures.

Techniques and finishing that save time and ensure a beautiful result:

• Working in the round from the bottom up on a circular needle ensures that your floats aren’t pulled too tightly while doing the stranded work. All colorwork is finished by the time you start decreasing for the crown and switch to double pointed needles.

• The kokopelli figures were intentionally designed with some random background colored stitches sprinkled here and there. This immediately makes the hat more natural and relaxed visually, and forgives any minor mistakes. Additionally, where caught floats show through, they fit right in with the natural, rugged feel.

• This hat is made to fit loosely to allow for a fleece lining for extra warmth and for those who find wool itchy. The lining also covers the lower floats so that there is no danger of someone getting their fingers caught. Fleece is comfy, inexpensive, and can be sewn in place with raw edges that won’t unravel. If you don’t want to add a fleece lining, choose a yarn and needles which will allow for a tighter gauge.

• Detailed instructions are included for washing and blocking the hat on a do-it-yourself form.

• Wool is recommended as it allows for better stretching or shrinking if needed, to get the best fit.

Yarn note: You will not need the full skein of either yarn; close to 2/3 of each.
