Swinging Chicken
Welcome!
Winter markets are coming up and fiber artists are looking for new patterns to try. This pattern is currently popular both on my Instagram and in-store for purchase.
I sell these swinging chickens for $15 at our local mall. I restock once a week, and these usually don’t last longer than a week. They’re a go-to when I prep each week.
✨Yarn Recommendation
Typically, my patterns can be adjusted to be used with most yarn/hook combos. However, I do not recommend using blanket yarn for this project unless you want a giant swinging chicken. I tend to stick to both medium weight (4) and bulky weight (5) yarn.
I prefer to use either I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby or Big Twist Posh from Joann, but I recently got to try Knotty Ball Yarn by Kayla’s Krafts and fell in love! I used that yarn to develop this pattern and am looking forward to using it more.
Knotty Ball by Kayla’s Krafts
I use a 3.75mm hook for medium weight and 4.5mm for Knotty Ball and Posh.

Size 5 Yarn in Brown and White. I used Knotty Ball.
Scrap yarn in red and yellow for face details. You can use medium weight or bulky weight yarn
4.5mm Hook
10mm Safety Eyes

✨Additional Information:
This project works best using size 4 or 5 yarn. You can make it jumbo with larger yarn.
If you have issues with your eyes falling out, try putting a dab of fabric glue on the post of your safety eye. Let it dry for a minute, and then put the back on the eye.
I attach the strap for the nest after fastening off and rejoining new yarn. You can choose to chain 100 after your last stitch of round 11 if you want to skip this step.
When adding the strap, I prefer to put the chicken into the nest and THEN decide where to add the strap.
Use tight tension with the strap.
