This Victorian pattern is one of my favorites. Not only are the star blocks small and quick to finish (34 rounds + corners) but I also love how the star points push the corner welts into a star shape when 4 blocks are sewn together! All even-numbered rounds are simply knit.
I’ve included 2 welt corner options. Starting with a purl row results in a “dent” in the welt corner (see the northwest and southeast corners in the top photo). Starting with a knit row creates a gentle arch (the northeast and southwest corners). You can choose to have all the same type of welt corners or work the block with both types as I did.
The instructions are written in rounds from the start but use any method that works for you in starting a knit-in-the-round project. I worked in rows until after round 3, then connected the ends. Also, take extra care with the parentheses inside the brackets in the odd-numbered rows #23 to #31. These rows create the lattice between the star points.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, k2tog, p2tog and YO.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

70 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 1 star block at gauge.
