I was using an unlabeled skein of DK-weight yarn that had been donated for the sake of making chemo caps. I decided to just double it up and create a hat to use it. I would’ve tried my hand at creating a crochet pattern with it, but I kept running out of it before I could finish the hat properly, so I went with knitting since it uses less yarn.

To make a shorter adult/teen hat, only do two repeats of the Body rows; to make a smaller hat for a toddler/child, use DK weight yarn (single strand) and size 5 needles, doing all three repeats of the body; for an infant, you can use DK yarn, size 5 needles and only do two repeats of the body rows. I will add more pics as I make more samples.

The infant-sized purple hat done in Bernat Baby Jacquard “Petunia”, is a DK weight yarn, done on size 5 (3.75mm) needles, doing only 2 repeats of the body stitches, ended up being about 5.25 inches long and approximately 12 inches in circumference, but is very stretchy. The gauge on using single-strand DK yarn is 24 sts/4 inches in K3P2 ribbing, and 36 rows/4 inches. I used about 50yds (15grams) of yarn.
