The Swiss Army Scarf is based on the blankets the Swiss Army issued - they’re warm, versatile, and in recent times, a design piece. I have designed it to use up yarn from previous projects, so can be worked in any colour with any number of stripes: it is the ultimate utility knit. You can knit it as large or as small as you like, just keep following the pattern repeat. I hope it’ll keep your neck warm, look nice draped over the back of your sofa, make your pet cosy or even keep your take out dinner toasty in your bag on the way home.

With this scarf, the beauty is in the blocking. I have included pictures of the scarves while blocking so you can get a picture of how much stretching they really do need.
Here’s a photo tutorial if you need any No Frills guidance on blocking:

I used Woolyknit’s British Wool cone in ‘Mid Grey Natural’, then a bit of Drops’ Brushed Alpaca Silk in ‘Red’ in the original edition.
In my most recent Swiss Army Scarf I used Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk in ‘Sage Green’ with a stripe in Rowan’s Kidsilk Haze in ‘Jelly’ knitted until I ran out; it’s much brighter, but incredibly soft and warm.
The exact gauge is not important for this pattern - a thin double knit, a 4ply or a laceweight yarn with a bit of ‘fuzz’ (kidsilk, brushed alpaca etc) will work just fine, but be careful with mixing them in the same project - it might come out a bit warped. Try to stick with the same type of yarn in the same scarf.
