The Switchback Cowl is a cowl in the circle-scarf style—a continuous loop you can wear loosely or doubled up! It has a lot of texture and visual interest, and looks a lot different depending on how you wrap it.

Materials:
504 yards of worsted-weight yarn: 104yds/96m C1; 200yds/183m C2; 200yds/183m C3, OR 3 skeins Malabrigo Merino Worsted, 1 skein each color.
36” circular needle, US size 8-9/5.0-5.5mm, or size needed for gauge
2 removable stitch markers

Gauge: 13 sts and 26 rows in lightly blocked garter stitch. Gauge isn’t too important, but don’t go smaller: knitting too tightly will make a smaller finished cowl.

Technical skills: Aw man, this is a fun one in terms of technique. Techniques include knitting in the round, two color brioche, and simple short rows.

Your purchase of this pattern includes a mini .PDF tutorial to help with the increases, just in case they’re not intuitive at first.

The sample shown is knit in Malabrigo Yarn Merino Worsted in Color 1: Simple Taupe; Color 2: Damask, and Color 3: Red Mahogany.
