This kitty was inspired by a skein of locally farm raised and milled wool and mohair blend from Avalon Springs Farm. This oh so soft and fluffy yarn with the gentlest of halos just begged to be a cute little kitty in a sweater.

Syd is worked in the round from the bottom up. His sweater is knit flat from the top down. The pockets in the sweater are optional, but they are super cute!

Yarn used in the sample can be found here:

Yarn - For Syd - Sir Kay from Avalon Springs Farm, DK weight, 250 yds/229 m. Syd used about 50 yds. This yarn has a beautiful halo. You may achieve a similar halo by using one strand of mohair with one strand of heavy weight fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn. Note: You may need to adjust your needle size for Syd and his sweater if you substitute yarns.

For Syd’s sweater - Pendragon Whelps from Avalon Springs Farm, fingering weight, 100 yds/91 m. Sweater used about 40 yds.

Needles - US size 2 (2.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge below. You’ll need two sets of double pointed needles (ten total) and a circular needle in the same size for the sweater.

Kitty Gauge - 6 sts by 8 rows over 1” . Gauge is not overly important as long as your fabric is tight enough so the stuffing doesn’t show through when stuffed. I recommend at least two to three sizes smaller than the recommended needle size.

Sweater Gauge - 7 sts by 10 rows over 1” blocked lightly.

Finished size - approximately 7.25”/18 cm tall

Miscellaneous- 4 locking stitch markers, darning needle for weaving in ends, about 1/4 ounce of wool stuffing (or stuffing of your choice), a scrap of fingering weight yarn or embroidery floss in pink for the nose and black for the eyes, two 6”/15 cm scraps of fingering weight yarn to hold stitches for the pockets.

Special thank you to Sherry and Nigel for letting me name this pattern after their very own grey kitty :)
