Sydebascht
This light and airy shawlette is your perfect companion, the ideal cover for those early spring days, when the first colours start to grace the trees and the peonies start to bloom …
“Sydebascht“ is the Swiss-German name of one of my favourite spring shrubs, the lilac daphne!
Enjoy the colours of Siide-Quirlig, how they shine and gleam, and knitting this delightful spring project!
Construction Notes
This shawl is constructed from the bottom up, starting with the simple lace pattern, which is both charted and written out. As an option - and as shown in the sample - the first two rows can be worked in a contrast colour, CC.
The stitches are cast on using the “German Twisted Cast-On”, which gives a nice, tidy and flexible edge.
The lace edge is repeated several times, depending on shawl size. The stockinette shawl body is then shaped into an elongated crescent using short rows. With this kind of yarn and to close the gaps, the “German Short Rows”-technique has proven to look the tidiest. Finally, the shawl is finished using an I-cord bind-off.
