Construction
The sweater is worked top-down and seamlessly.
- You start from a traditional cast-on and the ribbed collar is worked in-the-round. (You may start from a provisional cast-on below the collar. Read further under Cast-on for yoke).
- The yoke is worked in lace pattern in-the-round followed by stockinette sts to underarms.
- Work is separated for body and sleeves
- The main body is worked in-the-round in stockinette sts. The hem is worked in rib-pattern.
- The sleeves are worked in the round in stockinette sts. The cuffs are worked in rib-pattern.
Sizes
Finished chest measurements, after washing/blocking and worked at gauge: 82/87/96/106/113/123/132/142 cm = 32.25/34.5/38/41.5/44.5/48/52/56”.
The sample is worked in size 1, with 2.5 cm/1” of positive ease.
Materials
Yarn: I used 2 yarns held together to work the sweater. Yarn 1: “All Day organic” from Gepard, in shade 520. This fingering weight yarn comes in balls of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 175 m/191 yards.
Yarn 2: “Kid Seta Tweed” from Gepard, in shade 502. This lace weight yarn comes in balls of 25 gr/0.88 oz and 210 m/230 yards. You will need approximately 875/975/1075/1150/1225/1325/1425/1550 m = 955/1065/1175/1255/1335/1445/1555/1690 yards of EACH of the yarns listed above.
Please note: you may also work this sweater using 1 strand of yarn only, using a yarn that knits up to gauge.
Needles: size 4 mm/US6 for the lace-pattern, the main body and the main sleeves. Size 3.5 mm/US4 for the rib-pattern of the neckline, the hem and the cuffs.
Gauge
22 sts and 30 - 32 rounds in stockinette sts, after blocking/washing = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”.
