I recommend this pattern at intermediate level.
Pattern is written as a series of charts. Each chart is easy to memorise, and is intuitive to knit, with the exception of the central cable, which needs careful following for at least two repeats.
The central chart has been colour-coded to aid ease of chart reading.
To knit the full size of this shawl, you will need 16 skeins of pure wool yarn. I recommend Stansborough’s Mythral DK 100% wool (113yd/104m per ball) for its ability to show stitch definition, its lightness, strength, beautiful lustre, and ability to drape and hold its shape at the same time.
If you are substituting the yarn, be sure to choose one that will hold its shape well (bearing in mind the size and eventual weight of the shawl) and give good stitch definition. A lovely heritage breed wool will probably be a good choice. Knit the shawl using a needle size that will give you a reasonably fluid fabric without being too loose.
Dimensions: 25”/64cm wide x 77”/1.94m long.
