Sylvia Baby Hat was inspired by Yuliya Sullivan’s Rainy Day Socks. It features a sweet picot hem and a simple ribbed lace pattern that continues neatly into the decreases at the crown. It has two sizes: 0-3 months and 3-6 months. The same number of stitches is cast on for both hats, and the difference in size is achieved by using different needle sizes. The pattern is written for double pointed needles but may easily be converted to circular needles.

The gauge for the 0-3 month size hat is 8 stitches per inch using 2.25 mm needles or size needed to achieve gauge. The guage for the 3-6 month size hat is 7 stitches per inch using 3.25 mm needles or size needed to achieve gauge.

A note about sizing:
The second size is a bit consevative; the pattern says it will fit from 3-6 months, but in my experience it fit from 3-9 months. I would like to hear feedback from people about how long the hat fit in your experience. The hat is stretchy and some negative ease is built in.

And, upsizing the hat to fit an adult is simple. Using the same stitch count and instructions, just use thicker yarn and bigger needles. Use DK or worsted weight yarn knit at 5 stitches per inch, and begin crown decreases after the hat measures 6 inches.
