Syndicate is modeled after the most common mass produced ribbed toque. Most often seen in bright colours, or just plain black, these acrylic wonders are stylish, worn deep over the brow or balanced on the tip of the wearer’s crown. The ribbing makes it easy to fit. Roll over the brim or fold it back. Your hat may look familiar, but the yarn you choose will make it something truly special and far superior!

While this hat is simple, small details reference its machine-made inspiration. The bottom edge is started with a tubular cast-on, making the ribbing appear to travel seamlessly over the edge. If you’ve never worked this technique, this hat is a great first venture. Instructions include how to do the tubular cast-on using traditional provisional cast-ons, as well as a method for using Judy’s Magic Cast On that is sure to be useful in future projects requiring a double-sided cast on. The ribbed body of the hat can be knit to your desired length for a snug or slouchy fit. The crown features a four-pronged false seam, a lovely detail that out-shines the sewn seam of the commercially-made hat.

One skein of worsted weight is all you need to create this classic hat. Perfect for anyone in your life, sizes range from child to adult.

Materials:
One skein Cascade Venezia Worsted(70% merino/ 30% silk, 218 yards/ 100g) or 220 yards of worsted weight
3.75 mm (US5) 16” circular needle
4.5 mm (US7) 16” circular needle
Wool needle
For provisional and tubular cast on:
Spare 3.75mm (US5) circular needle or same as smaller needle.
crochet hook (optional)

Skills Used: Working in the round , central double decrease, provisional and tubular cast on (specific instruction given).

Finished Measurements:
Small 18”-21” (46cm- 53cm)
Medium 19”-22” (48cm-56cm)
Large 20”-23” (51cm-58cm)
Extra Large 21”-24” (53cm-61cm)

Gauge:
20 sts = 4 inches/ 10 cm in ribbing, slightly stretched, using larger needle or size to obtain gauge. Hat is very flexible, exact gauge not crucial.
