This headband can be made up in a very short time and is extremely versatile; it is useful for working out to keep your hair back and it is machine washable so you can toss it in the laundry (lay flat to dry), but it also looks great to dress up an outfit. It doesn’t feel heavy on your head although it’s sturdy and keeps its shape well.

We tried this in two variations to get different looks. The black and white is made up of two opposite-facing rows of shell stitches and the blue and white is a row of double crochets with a row of shell stitches on either side for a wider band. The black and white version has a nicely-defined circle effect that looks more delicate than the blue.

What’s nice about this project is that it is a functional piece and is a fun departure from the usual crocheted yarn look. The pattern is available for free below in both variations. We improvised these patterns slightly so apologies if the instructions are a bit confusing, but it’s a forgiving material to work with so try improvising as well.
