Tacksam means “grateful” in Swedish, which is exactly how I feel after the long, dark Nordic Winter finally gives way to Spring. With its contrasting colours as well as textures, Tacksam is designed to tickle the maker’s senses and appeal to crocheters of all skill levels.
ONE SIZE
Approx. W55 cm x L180 cm / W21¾” x L71”
Pattern includes detailed instructions on how to customise size (final yardage will vary).
CONSTRUCTION
Tacksam is crocheted flat from end to end. Because of its mixed stitch composition, this wrap must be aggressively blocked to ensure the edges run straight. The lace section in particular has been designed to open up and grow significantly with blocking.
YARN
The Fibre Co ACADIA (DK; 60% merino wool, 20% baby alpaca, 20% silk noil; 133 m / 145 yds per 50g)
A: 4 skeins in Thunder Bay (dark blue)
B: 4 skeins in Yellow Birch
C: 3 skeins in Sand
Yarn Alternatives
A bouncy DK yarn that blocks well and feels light will give the best result. Think merino or BFL wool, silk blends, alpaca blends, mohair blends. If using synthetic or plant-based fibres, some wool/alpaca content will help to ensure a good drape. To obtain a lighter, more transparent shawl, a sport or fingering weight yarn worked to the same tension may be used too. If working to a different tension (e.g. using a worsted weight yarn), it is important to ensure stitch tension across the three swatches is more or less the same.
Yardage required
A + B: 530 m / 575 yds each
C: 390 m / 435 yds
HOOKS, NEEDLES + NOTIONS
4mm hook, or as required to obtain gauge
Wool needle
