Tahoe Peaks Shawl
Designed for Knits & Knots Minden for the 2024 Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl
The Tahoe Peaks Shawl is a design inspired by the breathtaking beauty of not only Lake Tahoe, but the surrounding Sierra Nevada region. The narrow triangle shape makes this piece perfect for wearing while adventuring through the Sierra Nevadas. The simple textured stitch pattern captures the serenity of the region’s rugged beauty. I chose a tweed yarn to mimic the rocky terrain and natural diversity you find nestled among the green forests surrounding Lake Tahoe. I hope as you make this shawl you’ll find some tranquility, even if you can’t make it in a mountain or lakeside hideaway.
Sample pictured is made with Arkaik Fibres Fremont Tweed in the color World Waits. The pattern is written for 2 skeins of a single color, but you could stripe this - the pattern includes instructions for switching skeins, to avoid pooling with the single color, and you can easily use those instructions to stripe this with multiple colors.
- Size - 72 inches (183cm) wingspan x 17.5 inches (44.5cm) depth at center (pre-blocking)
This pattern is great for a confident beginner. I wouldn’t make this as your first project, but you don’t need to have a lot of experience to make it. Basic stitches you’ll need to know - double crochet, slip stitch, extended single crochet, extended single crochet decrease.
