This design was originally created for my brother in law who wanted to show off his pride in our roots. I wasn’t able to find anything so knew something had to be done from scratch. This will be the first in a series I plan on doing showcasing Taino inspired art and turning them into fiber art.

Tainos were some of the original inhabitants of many of the Caribbean Islands, including the Island of Borikén, or better known as Puerto Rico.

Included in this piece are the symbols for the Sun, the Puerto Rican flag and the Coqui.

The item should be worked one stitch for every block.

Choose any colors you like for the background. It is recommended to use SC, HDC or even Tunisian crochet as some of the other stitches tend to warp images worked in graphgans.
