The Tali Beanie was brought about by a friend mentioning she felt intimidated by colourwork. I wanted to create something that was uncomplicated to knit but gave a visually appealing finished beanie.

This is a great introduction to stranded colourwork and learning how to work two colours at a time.

Worked in the round from the bottom up, you will be working a twisted rib brim and then a simple 1 x 1 colourwork beanie.

Don’t forget to add that big bobble when you’re done. The bobble (or pom as some call it) is what ‘makes’ this beanie.

Written in full with handy progress check boxes, so you can keep a visual track of where you are.

I have formatted this pattern in such a way that you should only need to print one page (if you prefer to use a hard copy when knitting). Saving the planet one unprinted page at a time.

For fit reference, I have a 22 inch head and the fit is a perfect close fit beanie. I have added instructions for making longer if desired.

You will need the following :

ARAN

  • Colour A 30g and Colour B 15g.
  • Bobble 40g (mix of A & B or solid)
  • 6mm & 6.5mm circular needles, 16 inch / 40cm or longer with magic loop (or size required to obtain gauge).
  • 6.5mm dpn’s for decrease if not using magic loop.

CHUNKY

  • Colour A 50g and Colour B 30g.
  • Bobble 40g (mix of A & B or solid)
  • 6.5mm & 7mm circular needles, 16 inch / 40cm or longer with magic loop (or size required to obtain gauge).
  • 7mm dpn’s for decrease if not using magic loop.

BOTH

  • Beginning of round marker.
  • Tapestry needle (for sewing those dreaded ends in).

.

Gauge and Size

Aran : 6.5mm needles : 9 stitches and 9 rows (2 inch / 5 cm stocking stitch in the round).

Chunky : 7mm : 7 stitches and 8 rows (2 inch / 5 cm stocking stitch in the round).

Blocking is not strictly required but I block my hats by lightly spraying and wearing around the boat.

Measurements when unblocked and laid flat : Height : 23cm, Width at brim : 23cm

I can’t wait to see your beanie so please do be sure to start a project page or tag me on Instagram and Facebook (#talibeanie @beanieboat).

If you like the look of this pattern it would be a huge help to me if you would give it a like as I have an overflowing notebook of ideas and this helps me understand what to work on next. Your support of my little dream is so appreciated. Every ‘like’ helps and it’s a known fact I do a tiny happy dance each time I get a notification. I am a terrible dancer!
