This shawl is crescent in shape and is knit from the top down. Short rows shape the top portion of the body. Simple colourwork sections mark the transition from one colour to the next. The shawl is finished with a lace edging.

A single skein of each of 3 colours is used. Most of each 50g skein was used in the shawl.

Charts are used for the lace and colourwork portions of the shawl.

The inspiration for the shawl is the Japanese maple, Tamuke Yama. This acer is dwarf and cascading in growth. The leaves are a very dark purple and highly ornamental. We love to plant contrasting plants in front, such as the brilliant yellow-green hosta called “Sunpower”. The leaves stay dark purple throughout the summer and turn a brilliant crimson in the autumn.
