Hello world! I am back this week with another entry of my “12 months of buns” project! In Japan, in July, they celebrate a festival called Tanabata where it is a custom to write wishes on a piece of paper and attach it to a bamboo tree. Inspired by that, I made a Tanabata bunny! I wonder what they’re wishing for…? If you love bunnies and Japanese culture as much as I do, please give this little guy a try! ❤

Materials
To make the Tanabata bunny you will need:
– A 2.5mm crochet hook
– Yarn in any color you’d like for the bunny, green for the bamboo and the base, as well as scraps in any colors of your choice for the paper slips
– A tapestry needle and scissors
– Stuffing
– Safety eyes
– A stitch marker to help you keep track of the start of the round
– A wire or pipe cleaner to stabilize the stem; you might also want to use some extra bits of wire to help you shape the leaves how you want
– Cardboard for the base
Please note that you can make the Tanabata bunny using any size crochet hook and yarn weight for a smaller or bigger result. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm crochet hook, the entire piece should be about 20cm tall.

Stitches & Abbreviations
The pattern is written using US crochet terms in continuous spirals. You will need to know the following kinds of stitches to make him:
– Magic Ring (MR)
- Chaining
– Single crochet (sc)
– Decrease (dec); preferably using the invisible decrease method
