The Tangent Top is a close fitting, mock neck crop top that’s perfect to wear with high-waisted pants, in my opinion! Or, if that’s not your scene, make it longer and voila, a perfect layering piece! The top features a ribbing detail that begins at the neck, continues down the shoulders and along the armholes, meets at the waist and ends at the hem, that truly gives the piece a unique look.

The tangent top is knit top down - you cast on using a seamless Italian cast-on and knit half twisted rib in the round to create the neck, and then use short row shaping to shape the shoulders and back. Then, you knit the front and back flat separately while still maintaining the twisted rib at the armholes, and then join in the round to knit the rest of the body. You can optionally shape the body to fit closely at your bust as well as waist. To finish the body you knit half twisted ribbing at the hem again and finish off with an Italian bind-off. Finally, you pick up stitches around the armholes and bind them off with a thin band of double knitting.
