Tango
One last triangle-cowl experiment, for now! Tango Cowl is a satisfying combination of several different shawl-shaping techniques and approaches. It’s a great little project for soft self-striping sockweight yarn, or use scraps and commemorate your all your larger/shawl projects in this versatile neckwarmer.
Because this cowl uses so many interesting shapes, it looks different from every angle. It’s not technically difficult, but you’ll need to be comfortable knitting flat and in the round, working different increase and decreases, and picking up stitches.
Measurements:
As shown, measured flat, this cowl is blocked with a slight taper and measures 13”/33cm tall and about 10”/25cm across at the narrow end, and about 11.5”/29cm across where it’s wider. This equates to a relaxed circumference of about 20”/51cm to 23”/58cm.
Gauge:
Gauge is 23 sts and 42 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked. Please be sure to check your gauge—this pattern will be forgiving of a larger/looser gauge, but not a smaller/denser one.
Materials:
- Urth Yarns Uneek Sock (sample uses Colorway 55) or Malabrigo Yarn Sock, 400-440 yards
- 1 24-48” circular needle in US3-4/3.25-3.5mm, or size needed for gauge. Knitting is both flat and in the round, so if you have both needle-lengths, that may work best! Otherwise, magic loop is a useful technique to make a longer needle work.
- Tapestry needle
- Removable stitch markers
- Optional: spare circular needle
