O’ Tannenbaum is one of my favorite Christmas songs; especially when it’s sung in German by Nat King Cole. It is based on a traditional folk song, and became associated with the Christmas tree by the early 20th century, and sung as a Christmas carol. The lyrics refer to the fir’s evergreen quality as a symbol of constancy and faithfulness.

The evergreen is also frequently used in making wreaths, which symbolizes growth and everlasting life. The wreath has significant meaning for the season and represents the unending circle of life. So what better way to celebrate the Christmas season than with the unending circle of a cowl :-)

This cowl is one of the first things I made when I returned to knitting; and it ignited in me a love for knitting that is yet to fade. This stitch comes from a book I’ve owned since I was a teenager -- Reader’s Digest Complete Guide to Needlework (originally published in 1979 and given to me by my mother).
