Tannenbaum Socks
These are super festive socks, with yellow stars topping Christmas trees full of twinkling bead “lights”, and colourwork stripes throughout the leg and foot.
Suitable for intermediate knitters, with knowledge of sock knitting and stranded colourwork. There is a special star stitch, and beads are knitted into the Christmas trees. Instructions are given for a yarn over short row heel, though if you are familiar with short row heels, you can use your preferred method. The socks are knitted from the cuff down, I prefer to use a set of 5 double pointed needles to knit socks, and this is how the pattern is written, but you can also use a circular needle and the magic loop method if you prefer.
The pattern is written for 3 sizes, small (UK 5-6), medium (UK 6-7) and large (UK 7-8), but is very easily customizable to fit your own foot. As you’re knitting from the cuff down, you can slip your work over your foot to check the fit of the leg, heel and foot as you go.
I’ve knitted these socks using Drops Nord 4ply sock wool, a super soft sock yarn with a 45% alpaca content, lovely to work with, and very reasonably priced as well as easy to get hold of. You will need around 50g each of Fog, Lemongrass and Red, as well as a small amount of Goldenrod for the stars.
Any 4 ply sock yarn will do, however, the gauge I’ve worked to is 32 stitches to 41 rows using 2.5mm double pointed needles - you can use a circular needle and the magic loop method if you prefer.
I have tried to make this pattern as user friendly as possible, but will provide you with my email address when you download the pattern, if you have any issues at all, do get in touch and I will be happy to help.
There are two other Christmas patterns in this year’s collection, Christmas Cheer and Rockin’ Robin, take a look in my shop for more details.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my listing, if you have any questions before purchasing, do get in touch.
