Tapestry
The motif used for this reversible cowl is based on a pattern from an early 17th century German book of needlework designs. The timeless design has reappeared in books and textiles down through the centuries.
This cowl is knit using the double knitting technique, but could just as easily be knit as a stranded piece. The 48” length is recommended as it can be easily double wrapped. A shorter cowl can be knit using fewer repeats of the motif.
Contrasting colors work best to show off the pattern.

About cable lengths: I use a 30” to cast on, and knit with a 24” cable as that eliminates the need to constantly push stitches up to the needle. Some students in my classes prefer a 36/40” cable as they prefer spreading out their stitches. It’s easier to spot twists in the join and other errors with the stitches spread out.
