Inspiration and construction
Searching for a two-colored shawl which matches both of my coats – a grey one and a blue one. Knitting a shawl half and half was boring for me, so I started drawing. Using the kite form but eliminating parts of it and folding the shawl to half gave me this idea. Wearing the blue coat, I will choose the grey side to have a contrast and with my grey coat the other way around. Tapir the animal the adult ones have half black and half white fur, giving this shawl its name.
This shawl starts with few stitches, is knitted diagonally and grows until a certain point. The second color is attached and using easy intarsia technique, (given in photo and video tutorial) and short row shaping the middle part will be created. By mirroring this, shawl ends with few stitches.
An I-cord edge, knitted with a special technique which is described in pattern creates a nice and elastic edge.

2 Skeins of contrasting color of Alpaka-Seide by RockTheWool (79% alpaca 21% silk) 400m/ 437yards per 100g - or a fingering weight yarn which gives you required gauge.

3mm (US2 ½) cable needle minimum 60cm – or a needle which gives you the required gauge.

Inspiration und Konstruktion
Auf der Suche nach einem zweifarbigen Tuch das zu beiden meiner Mäntel – grau und dunkelblau - passte, kam mir die Idee zu diesem Tuch. Ausgehend von der Kite Form habe ich Teile weggelassen und das Tuch zum Tragen so gestaltet, dass es in der Mitte längst gefaltet wird. Zum grauen Mantel trage ich dann die blaue Seite außen, und andersrum.
Der Name “Tapir” kommt von den Schabrackentapieren die im erwachsenen Alter halb weiß halb schwarz gefärbtes Fell haben. Dass diese zudem ausgesprochene Genießer sind rundete die Idee ab.
Das Tuch startet mit ein paar Maschen, die durch gezielte Zu- und Abnahmen diagonal gestrickt werden bis das Tuch eine bestimmte Größe hat. Es folgt der Mittelteil mit einfachen Intarsien (Foto- und Videotutorial) und verkürzten Reihen, bevor das Tuch spiegelbildlich beendet wird.
Damit der I-Cord Rand trotz Zunahmen elastisch wird, wird eine bestimmte Technik angewendet die zu einem weichen, elastischen Ergebnis führt.

3mm (US2 ½) Rundstricknadel von mindestens 60cm Länge – oder eine Stärke mit der Du die Maschenprobe erreichst.
