Tapotushki socks
About the pattern
‘Tapotushki’ are something in-between ankle-high socks and house slippers, filled with warmth and cosiness in every single stitch. Lace and texture add lightness and femininity to the design.
Intended as loungewear, they are worked from a thicker yarn and with a looser fit than regular socks and without a ribbed cuff. They are knit cuff-down, starting with a provisional cast on. Immediately after the picot edge comes the slip-stitch heel flap (but you can easily add a leg section, if you wish). The print starts together with the heel gusset and covers the instep, while the sole is worked in stockinette. You’ll be down to the classic toe and Kitchener graft in no time!

Sizes
Pattern includes 4 sizes (from pre-teen to adult female L), corresponding to EUR shoe sizes 35-36 (36.5-37.5, 38-39.5, 40-41) or US shoes sizes 5-5.5 (6-7, 7.5-8.5, 9-10)
Yarn
Sock to DK-weight yarn (~200-300m/220-325yds per 100g/3.5oz)
I especially like how these socks turn out in a fluffier yarn (with mohair / alpaca/ cashmere), but a tighter DK also looks great! You can also make your own mix by joining a strand of regular sock-weight yarn with a strand of mohair-silk.
You don’t necessarily need nylon content, if there are yarns with long staples in the mix.
Required yardage: ~40 (45, 50-55, 60-65) g / 1.4 (1.6, 1.8-1.9, 2.1-2.3) oz
Needles
3mm/US 2.5, or size to get gauge.
Use your preferred method: DPNs, magic loop on long circulars, three needles, short circulars - the pattern has tips for all.
Notions
waste yarn and crochet hook, stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors
Gauge
~25 sts х 35 rows per 10х10cm/4x4” in stockinette after wet-blocking, slightly stretched
