TaraDiddle Hat
As Cornelius Fudge puts it in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: “‘We haven’t got time to listen to more taradiddles, I’m afraid, Dumbledore.’”, the word TaraDiddle means a silly fib, or pretentious nonsense.
I’m hoping you’ll find the hat just as fun to knit as word TaraDiddle is to say - and that’s no lie!!
The pattern is a fast knit with easy to remember repeats, making it great for travel knitting or when you’re looking to kick back and Knitflix & Chill. Plus, the individual sets of written instructions for both fingering weight & DK weight yarn, for which the details of each are outlined below, gives you lots of options so you can knit the hat you love.
Yarn:
Fingering approx. 60g /240 yds fingering weight yarn. Sample yarn is Hypnotic Yarn Treat Your Feet Base 80% Superwash Merino / 20% Nylon; 400 yds per 100g skein; colorway Feelin’ Groovy; 1 skein.
DK approx. 60g /140 yds DK weight yarn. Sample yarn is Hypnotic Yarn Plump Merino DK Base 100% Superwash Merino; 231 yds per 100g skein; colorway Victorian Hair Pin; 1 skein.

Gauge:
Fingering 30 sts and 46 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in 2x2 rib, blocked.
DK 23 sts and 32 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in 2x2 rib, blocked.
Size: One size fits most 20-23” (50-58 cm) head circumference.
Fingering circumference approximately 18” (45 cm) blocked
DK circumference approximately 18” (47 cm) blocked
Suggestions for increasing size can be found in the instructions on page 3 for fingering and page 4 for DK. Keep in mind that increasing size will also increase the amount of yarn needed to complete hat.*
