I had never seen the show Doctor Who until recently, despite friends telling me for years how great (and addicting) it is. As a result, I never fully understood why there were quite so many police box patterns on Ravelry. Now that I’ve become a part of the fan base, I was looking for a great Tardis mitten pattern to make as a gift, but I couldn’t quite find a pattern that met everything that I was looking for. The result, of course, was that I joined the large company of Doctor Who pattern writers on the internet. These mittens are knit in aran weight yarn, and thus are very cozy and warm for those chilly fall and winter months. I kept the pattern fairly simple, with only basic knit and purl stitches, and basic colourwork, so even the most beginner Doctor Who knitter should be able to make these without too much trouble. Let’s find out if they are really bigger on the inside!

Sizes Available:

Women’s Small: Approximately 6.5” around at fingers
Women’s Medium/Men’s Small: Approximately 7” around at fingers
Women’s Large/Men’s Medium: Approximately 8” around at fingers
Men’s Large: Approximately 9” around at the fingers

Materials:

• 4.5mm (7US) dpns, or size required to meet gauge
• 1 skein (100g/200yds) Bernat Satin Solids, or other aran or worsted weight yarn in Main Colour
• ¼ skein of aran or worsted weight yarn in each Contrasting Colour
• 1 stitch holder
• 2 place markers
• Darning needle
• Small amount of white embroidery thread, if desired

Skills Required:

• Cast on
• Knit and purl stitches (in the round)
• 2x2 ribbing (in the round)
• Increase/m1 (using method of choice)
• Follow a basic colourwork chart (in the round)
