Tarkington Cowl
Introduction:
Like the writings of Booth Tarkington, this cowl is unpretentious but well-crafted, with every detail blending into harmonious unity. Worked flat from end to end with integrated and applied i-cord binding and one-row buttonholes, it showcases simple techniques to great advantage.
Skill Level:
Intermediate (provisional cast on, integrated and applied i-cord, one-row buttonholes).
Finished Size:
Sample shown is 7” x 32” and fits a neck circumference of 16-20”.
Tools & Materials:
Yarn – approximately 200 yards of worsted weight yarn. Sample was knit in Cascade 220, color “Peacock.”
Needle – 32” (~80 cm) circular needle, US 7 (4.5 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions – Crochet hook US G (4.0mm), approximately 10 yards (3 m) waste yarn of similar weight to project yarn, 3 buttons (1” - 1.25”), 3 smaller buttons, thread matching your project yarn, sewing needle, 1 removable stitch marker, tapestry needle to weave in ends, scissors
Gauge – 18 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in box stitch.
