This design uses both bias and non-bias knitting. Starting in the center of the shawl and worked outward, one side at a time, it’s the perfect use for scrappy yarn or long gradient colorways. Simply pair them with a coordinating main color.

You’ll work increases, decreases, do a bit of intarsia, casting on, binding off, joining, and best of all, plenty of soothing garter stitch. You’ll need to count carefully when starting a new section, but once Row 1 of each section is done, you’re off to the races and can (for the most part), put your brain in neutral. It’s perfect TV or conversational knitting.

The entire shawl is worked in garter stitch with a chain stitch edge. This all-garter stitch design is based on the concept of “Number Knitting,” wherein each square on a grid of graph paper represents a set number of stitches. This is your “Box Number.”

This design can easily made larger or smaller by changing your box number, allowing you to make this as big as your heart desires.
Seam (or graft) two triangles together for an interesting blanket, or simply knit a single triangle and wear it as a shawl.

Yardage requirements are provided for fingering weight yarn, but this can be knit in any yarn you like.
