The broken rib stitch is my favorite basic stitch pattern. It has lovely purl lines and garter bumps as well as a finished fabric with lots of drape and texture, perfect for yarns with lots of shine. I knit both of the prototypes with beautiful, shiny yarns that didn’t need a complex pattern getting in their way. The edging is a riff on good ole feather and fan that plays on the purl column texture of the body. Because this pattern only requires 375 yards of yarn it is perfect for merino silk, merino tencel, mcn blends that often come in smaller than average skeins.
