This easy, no-sew hat is knit in the round. It begins with a doubled stockinette brim that is knitted together rather than stitched. It alternates short sections of stockinette with larger sections of broken linen stitch. The hat uses a three needle bind-off to close the top. Corners can be decorated with tassels, pom poms, or braids.

Yarn:
210 yards of worsted weight (218 yds/100 grams) including yarn for tassels (218 yds/100 grams)

Note for handspinners: This pattern works well with a yarn that drifts between DK, worsted, and aran weights. Swatch a firmly knit band to get your starting stitch count. Round to an even number and then follow the pattern as written. If your yarn is very textured, you can also use commercial yarn for the band and switch to handspun for the body of the hat.

Suggested needle size:
For cast on and doubled band: size 6US needles dpns or 16” circulars / 4.0 mm or as needed to get 5 stitches & 8 rounds per inch

For body of the hat: Size 7US needles dpns or 16” circulars /4.5 mm or as needed to get 5 stitches & 10 rounds per inch in pattern
If using circulars, you will need a third 7US/4.5mm needle for the three needle bind off.

Note: row gauge is less important as you will be checking for length while knitting

Finished hat size:
Band: 19”; Body 10” across; hat length 9.5” from brim edge to bind off.
