Tatu
Tatu is a close-fitting sweater knit seamlessly from the top down in an interesting, 3-dimensional stitch pattern.
The neckline is shaped with some short rows, then the yoke is worked with raglan shaping.
After the yoke is complete, the body is worked in one piece to the hem with waist shaping.
The sleeves are worked in the round to the cuff, the pattern provides instructions for two lengths of sleeves.
All edgings are worked with a very simple but interesting method, that creates beautiful, clean lines.
The placement of the increases plays an important part in this pattern to achieve almost invisible shaping lines.
The fabric of the sweater is very elastic, if you want some positive ease just knit a larger size and block your garment gently.
Gauge
24 sts and 48 rows = 10x10 cm/4”x4” in Textured Stitch Pattern knit flat (short rows) with larger needle, measurement taken from slightly stretched fabric after blocking
24 sts and 48 rounds = 10x10 cm/4”x4” in Textured Stitch Pattern knit in the round (yoke, body and sleeves) with larger needle, measurement taken from slightly stretched fabric after blocking
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Sizes
XS1 (XS2: S1: S2: M1: M2: L1: L2: XL1: XL2)
Finished Measurements
68.5 (73.5: 78.5: 83.5: 88.5: 93.5: 98.5: 103.5: 108.5: 113.5) cm / 27 (28¾: 30¾: 32¾: 34¾: 36¾: 38¾: 40¾: 42¾: 44½) inches bust circumference at underarm.
Intended to fit with approx. 3 cm/1¼” negative ease at bust.
Yarn
Short sleeves: Approximately 650 (685: 725: 770: 815: 865: 915: 970: 1030: 1095) meters / 710 (750: 795: 840: 890: 945: 1000: 1060: 1125: 1195) yards.
Long sleeves: Approximately 915 (970: 1030: 1090: 1150: 1220: 1295: 1370: 1455: 1535) meters / 1000 (1060: 1125: 1190: 1260: 1335: 1415: 1500: 1590: 1680) yards.
It is very important to use a yarn with good memory - wool or wool blend with high wool content - otherwise the stitch pattern will be flat and not 3-dimensional.
Samples shown are size S2 with approx. 3 cm/1¼” negative ease at bust using MadelineTosh Tosh Merino Light (100% Merino, 384 m /420 y per skein) in colourway Georgia O’Keefe (short sleeves) and Silver Fox (long sleeves).
