In college, I took a course in art history, and my favorite part of the class was our introduction to the austere beauty of Romanesque architecture -- its clean lines and symmetry. I’ve tried to evoke something of that spirit in the Taverna shawl, hoping to create a design which will satisfy the occasional craving to knit something beautiful and delicate yet blissfully simple. The charts are easy to memorize, and the size of the shawl is easily altered by changing yarns or by knitting more or fewer pattern repeats in the body or edging of the shawl.
