Taylor Swift's Dress: Sock's Version
Taylor Swift wore a gorgeous crochet dress after her London show and caused a commotion in the fiber arts community—because of course we can make that! But why should crochet have all the fun? These socks are knit but mimic the appearance of crochet and will be finished much faster than a full dress (not to mention they are lighter and wearable year-round!) It’s a great scrap-busting project, and you can match Taylor’s Version or create your own color combination.
TECHNIQUES
These socks are knit cuff-down with one lace chart, and a heel flap and gusset. Color changes are indicated in the chart.
MATERIALS
Yarn: 4 colors of fingering weight (4 ply) yarn. Sample is shown in scraps of The Sheepy Shire Staple Sock (Lavender “Ewe-La-La” and Orange “Ta-Da”), Knit Picks Stroll (Brown “Burt Umber Heather”, and Drops Fabel (“Off-White”). Exact yarn usage for socks will depend on size, height of leg, and length of foot.
MC (Off-White): 50-100g
CC1 (Lavender): 10-20g
CC2 (Peach): 10-20g
CC3 (Brown): 10-20g
Needles: Size 1 needles, or needle size required to achieve sock fit preference. Needle style may be double pointed needles, 24” circular needle, or 9” circular needle, as preferred.
Additional Materials: Tapestry needle, stitch markers (3), scissors, crochet hook (optional)
SIZING
The sock pattern is written for 3 sizes: S (M, L). The socks are designed to fit approximate foot circumference 8 (9, 10) inches. This can vary based on gauge, needle size, and sock fit preference.
