Tea Cozy Summer Poncho
This little poncho is an easy to knit, easy to wear, lightweight, perfect summer cover up! Wear it with the point in front or turn it sideways for a whole different look. It was first designed for the annual Puget Sound Local Yarn Store Tour, back when we were limited to a one skein project. So we chose one extra long skein!
The original version was worked in Bumblebirch Glen, a fingering weight yarn, but you can use any yarn that gives you the desired gauge and drape. (Some suggestions below). Or even make a wooly version for fall or winter.
The size as written fits a large variety of people. Adjustments are easy however, since it is worked from the top down. If you would like to make it larger, just keep increasing until it’s the length you want (this will require more yarn), or to make it smaller, just work the border sooner.
Size: One size fits many. Easily adjustable.
Finished Measurement: Approx. 17” from front neck to hem (along eyelets)
Yarn: Bumblebirch Glen 2-ply fingering weight (150g/600 yards, 80% superwash merino/20% silk); 1 skein
Other Suggested Yarns: Approx. 600 yds of fingering/sport/dk yarn
Some possibilities that would be nice:
Malabrigo - Arroyo
Noro - Sonata
Rowan - Felted Tweed
The Fibre Company - Acadia
The Fibre Company - Cumbria Fingering
Suggested Needles: US size 5 (3.75mm), 24” circular, or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle
Gauge: 22 sts and 36 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. If stitch or row gauges vary, it may affect the amount of yarn needed.
