Teal Tide is a shallow, semicircular shawlette featuring lacy shells, chains, and fans. It’s finished with a delicate beaded edging (beads are optional) and a chain-stitch border.

This pattern uses American crochet terminology.

Skill Level: Strong intermediate. While only simple stitches are used, focus is needed to work the complex increases, and there are no repeating rows (similar to working a doily). (A partial stitch diagram is included to provide a visual of the increase section.)

Finished Size (after blocking): Approximately 32” (inner curve) / 70” (outer curve) / 8 3/4” deep at deepest point. As this was designed to be a one-skein project, the wrap is just long enough to throw over one shoulder. If you have a second skein of your yarn and wish to make a longer wrap, additional pattern reps can be added to the foundation.

Yarn: Yarn Love Yarn Princess Buttercup fingering-weight yarn (65% silk / 35% linen; 504 yd 461 m / 4 oz 113 g): 1 skein (shown in color Persia).

Hook Sizes: F (3.75 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm); 1.00 mm-1.15 mm steel or beading hook for adding beads (optional).

Notions: Optional - 35 size 3.5-4 mm cube seed beads with holes large enough to accommodate your choice of beading hook (I used clear, aqua-lined 4 mm Miyuki cube seed beads); yarn needle; optional stitch markers to mark increase points (7).

Gauge (unblocked): Foundation: With smaller (F) hook, 22 fsc = 4”. Body: With larger (7) hook, 3 pattern reps in shell pattern = 3 3/4”; 8 rows in pattern = 3 3/4”. Gauge will expand with blocking and wear.

While precise gauge is not critical for this project, making and blocking a gauge swatch (instructions included) will give an idea of how much the lace will open up and expand. Blocked gauge for the sample was approximately 4” / 3 pattern reps and 4” / 8 rows.
