Team Spirit Scarf
The idea for this scarf came when I wanted to make a Pittsburgh-themed gift for my stepdad. There weren’t many patterns to choose from other than logo-ed items that required lots of intarsia work. My design is reversible and will work in any team colors you wish to knit it in, even if there are more than two colors. Featuring two coordinating stitch patterns, it is the perfect gift for any sports fan…or to express your own team spirit.
Approximate finished measurements (after washing): 10 1/2” wide by 60” long
Approximate Gauge: 20 sts and 27 rows = 4”
My measurements are approximate because this yarn grew slightly with washing. It is not important in this scarf, but if you want to be exact, knit a swatch and take measurements before and after washing to account for any growth.
Yarn used:
Brown Sheep Company Nature Spun, worsted, 100% U.S. Grown Wool, 245 yds
Color A: Blue Boy, 2 balls
Color B: Grey Heather, 1 ball
This scarf is easily customizable and if you want it longer, you can just keep knitting more colorblock sections. Just make sure to buy extra yarn! You can also use more than 2 colors if your team spirit requires it.
Needles: Size 9
Crochet Hook for single crochet border on charted sections: Size E
If you want to avoid crochet, you can choose to pick up and knit a row or two instead on those sections. The crochet is one row to eliminate the natural curl of the fabric in those sections and is not a key element of this design. A row or two of garter stitch would work just as well.
