Looking for the perfect baby shower gift? Or a quick and fun knit for the little ones in your life? This lovely bonnet, designed to be a companion piece for my Teatime Cardigan, is practical and distinctive, with its irresistible texture.
CONSTRUCTION:
This bonnet is knit seamlessly. The front of the bonnet is knit flat, featuring an easy textured stitch; the crown is knit in the round. An applied I-cord and I-cord ties are worked on the neck portion.
SKILLS REQUIRED: cast on, knitting, purling, decreasing, working an easy textured stitch, working I-cord and applied I-cord (explanations provided).
SIZES:
Newborn (Baby, Toddler, Child)
For head circumference up to: 16 (18, 19, 20) inches or 40.5 (45.5, 48, 50.5) cm.
Finished bonnet is approximately: 12.25 (13.5, 15, 16.5) inches or 31 (34.5, 38, 42) cm around face (jaw to jaw).
Bonnet depth is approximately: 5.75 (7, 8, 8.5) inches or 14.5 (18, 20.5, 21.5) cm.
YARN REQUIREMENTS:
Note: Sample is shown in Madelinetosh’s Tosh DK 100% merino; 225 yards/205 m per 100g/3.5oz skein.
Approximately 90 (100, 120, 130) yards or 82 (91, 110, 119) meters of DK weight yarn.
NEEDLES:
- US 6 or 4 mm diameter circular needle (or straight needles), or size needed to match textured stitch gauge
- 1 set of matching dpns (or a long circular needle if using the magic loop technique) for crown
- US 5 or 3.75 mm diameter circular needle (or straight needles), or one size smaller than above for ribbing
- 1 set of matching dpns for I-cord
NOTIONS:
- tapestry needle
- 8 stitch markers (including a different colored marker for the BOR m).
GAUGE:
22 sts x 34 rows = 4 inches or 10cm in textured stitch using larger-diameter needles after blocking.
