Tectonic Cowl
Tectonic cowl is knit in the round using a textured zig-zag pattern. The ends of the cowl are grafted together using a provisional cast-on and the Kitchener stitch to create a seamless, double-thick cowl that will keep the wind at bay even on the coldest days.
The textured pattern of this cowl is meant to mimic the layers of the lithospheric mantle. Plate tectonics have literally shaped the world around us. Between moving continents, causing earthquakes and volcanos, and forming mountain ranges, the importance of plate tectonics cannot be overstated. Evidence of tectonic activity surrounds me in the Northern Rockies, and the stunning mountain peaks are a continual source of inspiration in my knitting and design.
