Tekoa Mittens
A fun play on mirror imaging and contrast colors the Tekoa mittens use a simple geometric pattern that alternates the main color and contrast color with a cable down the top. Worked in the round from the cuff up these mittens have a gusseted thumb and narrow ribbed cuff.
I like gusseted mittens the best, I think they fit the hand better than the afterthought thumb method and so even in colorwork I like to design with a gusset. For this stitch pattern I was really keen on creating a pattern that could have two sections of the same patterning but in opposite colors. On the palm of the mitten these two sections sit beside each other as mirror image, on the top of the mitten one section of the patterning twists over the other moving the contrasting colors around each other. Red and turquoise are two of my favorite colors, and are especially great when they are at a similar vibrancy. They make me think of bright red canoes, skimming across cerulean waters towards tiny square cabins along the shore in the distance.

Pattern Notes
These mittens are worked from the bottom up in the round, the top of the mitten has more stitches than the bottom of the mitten so additional decreases are worked on the top only at the beginning of the decrease chart. The beg of the rnd is placed in the center of the mitten palm to prevent a jog in the color change.
