Template is a big scarf or wrap or shawl in easy garter stitch. Template is knit on the bias. Despite being bias-knit, it is a rectangle, which is kind of neat.

You can knit Template in any suitable yarn (soft wool recommended), and gauge is not too important because of that, though the yardage requirements will vary with the yarn. This .PDF includes six explicit possible combinations (there are three widths and two lengths), and some notes explaining how the pattern dictates its finished width, so it should be very easy to customize.

If you’re going off the book with yarn, be sure you have plenty on hand! For the sample, I needed three skeins of Scarfie, but it amounted to two skeins and about two yards—I very probably could have gotten by with two if I’d left skimpier tails to weave in.

Gauge:
For the scarf shown, gauge is 11.5 sts and 24 rows in 4”/10cm of blocked garter stitch. Since you can realistically knit this scarf in any yarn (with, frankly, better scarf results from a lighter yarn), gauge isn’t too important. The .PDF includes notes on how to customize or design your scarf using some of the setup measurements, so you can determine the finished width and length.

Measurements:
As shown, this scarf is about 15.25”/38cm wide and 72”/183cm long.

Materials:
About 640 yards of Lion Brand Scarfie, or a soft substitute yarn
1 pair of straight needles, or a circular used for flat knitting, in US10/6mm, or size needed for gauge
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
