Ten Day Cowl
’Ten Day Cowl’ uses 10 mini skeins. Knit one mini skein per day and you will have this cozy cowl in less than 2 weeks!
Also a great stash buster. Use 10 colors of left over fingering from your other beloved projects. Each color needs to be about 85 yards.
Notes:
Pattern is worked in the round as a long tube that is then connected at the end of the pattern.
The pattern is intended to begin with a provisional cast on and then joined in the end with either a three needle bind off or grafted with a Kitchener stitch. If you prefer not to do this, you can simply do a long tail cast on and cast off as usual and then sew the ends together (to join the tube) when finished.
My provisional cast on of choice is the COWYAK. Check out my explanation on page 6 of pattern if you are unfamiliar with this method.
Mosaic knitting is used for the colorwork, therefore only one strand is carried in each round.
The colorwork pattern will show up better if you alternate dark and light colors and will be easier to knit if you are new to mosaic or colorwork knitting. However, I think subtle colorwork is beautiful too!
Size:
About 30 inches in circumference after the ends are attached
8.5 inches (21.5 cm) deep (fabric doubled)
Yarn:
Any fingering weight yarn of your choice in the following amounts:
Ten colors – 20g/87yds each. Total yardage is 870yds (this includes an approx. 10% buffer).
Sample used two of Ewe2Yarn’s ‘SWIRL’ five color mini skein sets. Each set contains five different colored mini skeins. Each mini skein is 20g/80m/87yds.
Needles and Notions:
US size 4 and 5 (3.5 mm and 3.75 mm) 16 inch circular needles or needle size to obtain gauge.
If you are doing a 3-needle bind off or Kitchener stitch, you will need a third US size 4 needle or needle of same size as used to obtain gauge.
Stitch marker and darning needle and waste yarn.
Gauge:
30 sts and 38 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in textured stitch in the round using smaller needles, lightly blocked.
Happy Knitting!!
