About this Design
This handy pod-like pouch echoes the sinuous botanical two-colour cables of the Tendril Scarf and Tendril Mittens, right down to the foliage zipper tab. Like the Tendril Scarf, this little pouch includes a variety of interesting techniques including a provisional cast-on, two colour (intarsia) cables and three-needle bind-off.

The finished pouch is felted to provide a sturdy fabric that will safely hold any of your knick knacks. I use mine to hold my essential knitting tools – darning needle, tape measure, stitch markers and small scissors.

The Tendril Pouch is the perfect project for using up small amounts of pure wool stash yarn that is suitable for felting. It is also a gorgeous little handmade gift for your crafting buddies, friends and family.

Size
One size although you can make a wider pouch by increasing the number of pattern repeats. Finished felted dimensions are 16.5 centimetres (6.5 inches) wide and 11 centimetres (4.5 inches) high. These are approximate dimensions because the felting process will affect different yarns in different ways.

Tension
19 stitches x 30 rows in stocking (stockinette) stitch knitted on 4.5 mm (US size 7, UK size 7) needles on a 10 centimetre (4 inch) blocked swatch. A perfect match for tension is not super critical for this pattern. However, if your gauge is significantly different, move up or down a needle size and swatch one more time. In particular, try to avoid an overly tight gauge as this will impact negatively on the felting process. Also, you may find that you use more or less yarn if your gauge is significantly different.

You can use any pure wool yarn in the double knit (8-ply) to worsted (10) ply range that knits close to the tension gauge. It is essential that you use a yarn that can be felted. Superwash yarns, white yarns (even if pure wool) or yarns containing high proportions of man-made fibre are not suitable for this design. 100% dyed or coloured wool is your best choice for this project.

The sample pouches in the photos have been knitted with Cleckheaton California double knit (8-ply) 100% wool using the following colours:

• Fennel (colour 0018)
• Grey Scale (colour 5804)
