Ternary Blanket
The Ternary Blanket pattern is for a modular equilateral triangle, with additional instructions for using these modular triangles to assemble a hexagonal blanket in one of three sizes. The equilateral triangle is also the perfect building block to make a custom blanket, scarf, shawl, or whatever you please!
Each equilateral triangle is worked in-the-round from the outside edge in. New triangles are joined by picking up stitches from previously worked triangles. Or the triangles can be made individually and seamed together before working the border.
Brioche is a very flexible stitch that works well with many different fiber types and weights, so please experiment to achieve a result you love!
Pattern is provided in written form. Also provided are links to video demonstrations for the cast-on, the brioche decreases, and for grafting the i-cord bind-off in-the-round.
Finished Triangle Size: An equilateral triangle with sides of 8.125 in/ 20.5 cm and height of 7 in/ 17.75 cm
Finished Blanket Sizes S | M | L:
38.5 in/ 98 cm diameter | 55 in/ 139.5 cm in diameter | 71 in/ 180.5 cm in diameter (measured corner-to-corner)
Gauge
8 rounds and 30 stitches are 2.25 in/5.75 cm and 8.125 in/20.5 cm after blocking (this is equivalent to one side of the triangle).
Gauge is very important if working to the 8.125 in/20.5 cm specification but may be adjusted as desired to fit a custom size.

Yarn
Any worsted weight yarn that blocks well should work well for this pattern.
For a single triangle:
10.5 yards/ 9.6 meters/ 5 grams for the light color and
17.4 yards/ 15.9 meters/ 8.3 grams for the dark color
For the Small Blanket:
378 yards/ 346 meters/ 180 grams for the light color and
630 yards/ 576 meters/ 300 grams for the dark color
For the Medium Blanket:
771 yards/ 705 meters/ 367 grams for the light color and
1287 yards/ 1177 meters/ 613 grams for the dark color
For the Large Blanket:
1308 yards/ 1196 meters/ 623 grams for the light color and
2192 yards/ 2004 meters/ 1044 grams for the dark color
Sample was knit in the small size in two colors using Malabrigo Rios worsted weight yarn 210 yards/ 192 meters/ 100 g (100% Superwash Merino) in the Gris colorway for the light color and in the Pines colorway for the dark color.
