Terre Vest
This pattern has been technically edited and test knitted.
When I touched the Hitsuji noito for the first time, I felt the warmth of the earth. Bits of grass tangled in the yarn made me smile involuntarily and feel the scent of the sun. This is why I named this vest Terre, which means earth in French.
I wanted to use a simple stitch pattern to emphasize the pureness and rusticity of the yarn. The regular rhythm of the K1, P1 rib was so calming that I felt grounded. You can see the texture blooming beautifully after blocking.
Terre Vest is a cropped vest and can be worn with either side as the front. The large armhole opening allows you to wear it over T-shirts and dresses, or any possibilities of layering.
The vest is worked from the top down, starting with short rows to shape the back shoulder drop, then it is worked back and forth with increases to shape the neckline. Once the shoulders are joined, the back is worked back and forth to the underarms while increasing for armhole shaping and set on hold. Next, each front shoulder drop is shaped with short rows and it is worked back and forth to the underarm while increasing for neck and armhole shaping. The back and fronts are then joined in one piece and worked back and forth to the hem, which is finished with the vikkel braid and loops. Stitches are picked up along the front edge and the borders are worked back and forth. Then they are bound off while doubled with a crochet hook. The armhole edges are worked the same as the front edge. Lastly, 2 i-cord ties are joined at the neck. Cut the loops at the hem like a fringe after drying.
