Terrific Tetrahedron Tablet Pillow
Hi! I’m a teacher, and I wanted to have some soft, pillows that my students can use to prop up their ipads in class. I teach middle school math, and the students love the ipads! I added a little extra fun to them, to help students focus as well, by the added pieces on the side that I call fidget accessories.
I used bernat blanket yarn, so that these work up very quickly, and a size M/N or 9.0 mm hook. Because kids like to keep busy, I added little “fidget attachments” to the sides that can be played with while the students are learning on the ipad or tablet. These are tied to the pillow, so that they cannot accidentally take them out of the room, so that I know they stay with the pillow for all students to enjoy. Also, if they are destroyed through use, I can easily cut them off, and make a new one, without having to make an entirely new pillow.
The only stitches you will need to know how to do, are chains, single crochet, and one slip stitch. It helps if you know a good tying knot like a square knot as well.
If you’re doing the fidget accessories, I’ve given directions for those made with either the bernat yarn, or out of worsted weight yarn. I started making them with the blanket yarn, but I worried that it might fray with so much use, so I made some with worsted (acrylic or cotton) as well. Play with it, and see what works best for you. You will also need beads for the fidget parts. I found some fantastic wooden textured beads that are great for sensory seeking kids who like the feel of those. I put different ones on each side, and since it’s reversible, students can flip it for either hand and either side that has the beads they like. You could also use pony beads, or any bead with a wide hole for stringing onto the work.
The directions include lots of pictures and I’m available for questions you may have along the way as well.
